From 7–11 April 2025, the iSoS project team conducted a technical assistance visit to Tajikistan to reinforce strategic partnerships and promote sustainable and innovative HIV prevention solutions. The visit focused on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and new approaches to enhancing harm reduction programs.
Meetings were held with the Republican AIDS Center, Republican Clinical Narcology Center, WHO country office, UNAIDS, UNDP, ICAP, NGO SPIN Plus, and others.
Key objectives included:
- Presenting the iSoS project’s work in Tajikistan;
- Assessing PrEP services to inform improvement strategies;
- Introducing innovative harm reduction approaches for people who inject drugs (PWID);
- Exploring digital and AI-based solutions for HIV service delivery.
A roundtable discussion brought together experts from international organizations, government institutions, and NGOs. Participants reviewed the project’s plans and exchanged ideas on future strategies, including telemedicine for PrEP and the use of injectable buprenorphine in opioid substitution therapy (OST) programs.
Digital transformation was another focus. The team met with stakeholders implementing the DHIS2 system to review progress and challenges. Site visits were conducted to health facilities already using DHIS2 for data entry. As a result, partners agreed on a roadmap for transitioning to full electronic data entry and to develop a set of HIV prevention indicators to be integrated into the system at both national and organizational levels.
The visit, held in partnership with ECOM and the WHO Regional Office, marked an important milestone in strengthening regional collaboration and shaping effective, needs-based responses for key populations.
